I watch this movie with my lovely girlfriend Audrey, My twin brother Ben and his girlfriend Bernadette, and my good friend Austin that came all the way down from San Diego. We watch the afternoon showing of this movie and the theater wasn’t even pack. Not a surprise at all because people still had Ang Lee’s movie in mind. I’m the few that actually enjoyed Lee’s version of the Hulk. Not for the story, but it came across as a Living breathing comic book. I enjoyed Lee’s version but not as much as I enjoyed Louis Leterrier version. Like Iron Man I don’t know much about the Hulk. Just getting into his story by reading graphic novels that my friends lend to me. He has an interesting and complex story. It’s one Marvel character that I would love to know more about in coming years. Hopefully there is a sequel to come.
It isn’t an origin story like the 2003 movie was. It’s more of a continuing of the story with some twist. Like Batman Begin did to the Batman series, The Incredible Hulk requel the franchise with great actors and a better story. The movie delivers more with the story. The film successfully adds a depth of realism to the Hulk story.
Edward Norton (Bruce Banner) does a good job adding tension between him and William Hurt (General Thaddeus 'Thunderbolt' Ross). Right away you know that Gen. Ross is mad at Bruce for what he did to his daughter and will do everything in his power to capture Mr. Banner. The movie is always in motion and never really slow down with the action. There are a few scenes in the film that will make you laugh if you know what they are referencing.
The chemistry between Edward Norton and Liv Tyler chracter Betty Ross is much more believable then Lee’s version. The only problem I had with Liv Tyler in the movie was that she spoke so quietly. She sounded like a little girl whenever she talks to Bruce. But there is a scene was she actually shows a side of Betty we don’t see. It’s a funny scene and shows how much Bruce and Betty really have in common.
Tim Roth (Emil Blonsky) does an okay job as the films “Bad Guy”. The only real problem is that he suddenly becomes bad. I know the film doesn’t show a real background story for this character, but we do know he is one of the best military solider in the world. His reason to all of sudden become power hunger might come from him being the best in the world overall. But still, it fills very force just so The Hulk will have this huge Battle at the end of the film.
The scenes that I love in the film are the reference they have to other Marvel Superheroes. You can hear at least one major Marvel Superhero reference in the film that will have wondering how his story is connected to all this and another actually has a guest appearance near the ending of the film. After seeing these reference it will make so happy that marvel is actually creating a universe with their heroes.
Overall the film was great. Very entertaining and it will have you leaving the movie theater wanting more. The great cameos from another Superhero will have your hopes up for maybe a team up in the distant future. With some good CGI the film brings the Hulk to life a second time, but this time with a better crew at hand.
