Well I'm going to write my thoughts as I listen to each song one by one. Bare with me.
Say You Will: His introduction song is probably one of the best introduction songs I've heard in awhile. Right from the start you feel his emotion of sadness, loneliness and anger. With a simple drum and synthesizer beat, you feel his melancholy taking over you.
Welcome to Heartbreak (feat. Kid Cudi): With up and coming artist Kid Cudi singing the hook perfectly, Kanye West comparison with relatives and material object and showcasing his loneliness as reasons why he can't do certain things anymore is sad but also questions that money can't buy everything even love. A good second introduction.
Heartless: Radio hit, the song draws why the break up happen. Is it her fault or his fault? But in the end, ultimately loosing someone, regardless of who's fault it is, will always be tough on both parties.
Amazing: Yes it is, this is the Kanye we're all use too, the cocky and egotistic Kanye, but even if he's so amazing he still valuable towards heartbreak. Young Jeezy reminds us that a heartbreak can't stop you. It can only motivate you and push you to better things.
Love Lockdown: The song that started it all. The song is still great even if you listen to it a million times!
Paranoid (feat. Mr Hudson): If you listen to a lot of 80's music and such acts as Daft Punk and Justice, you'll see the influence in the song and the album as a whole. Basically, he's questioning the person's paranoia in a relationship. Sometimes we tend to get so angry with the smallest things, that we actually feel insecure with ourselves and the one you love. It's never healthy for yourself.
RoboCop: WOW. The beat is hard, it strikes you. It's actually a continuation of the last song's theme. I believe it explains when your love is acting nonhuman like. Like robotic, they act without thinking, not inputting human emotion into the situation. At the end, they seem paranoid and just taking it for granted.
Street Lights: By far the best song on the album with Coldest Winter. It's raw, and the melody is meticulous. The lyrics are very cryptic, and shows how a person's break up isn't always simple to explain. I guess you can say that the memories are passing by like street lights as your drive down a street of love, sure it helps you see your way but your determination to go should be enough for you. I compare this to Linkin Park's My December.
Bad News: Anyone who's been a break up can relate to the song. It's self-explanatory. The song title just gives it up. The beat is simple yet depressing.
See You in My Nightmares (feat. Lil Wayne): Very heavy on the auto tune. Featuring Weezy, the songs melody seem like the end of a big championship game in heartbreak, and Kanye is the champion. Not bad, knowing that you have two of the top selling emcees today in Hip Hop singing their hearts out for a troubled and disappearing relationship. The song is nice ending to a sad album.
Coldest Winter: Like Street Lights, the melody strikes you. If you've lost someone in your life due to death, for Kanye it was the mother, than this has to hit you. The lyrics are heartbreaking and you feel for him.
If Spring can take the snow away, can it melt away all our mistakes. Memories made in the Coldest Winter. Goodbye my friend, I'll never love again.
Pinocchio Story (freestyle live from Singapore): Kanye did it again, what we witness in the 2008 Grammys for his song Hey Mama, and 2008 VMA for Love Lockdown, he sings his heart out with such emotion that you can feel his struggles. This time his struggles isn't love, it's his fame. Not bad for a freestyle.
I turn on the T.V. and see me, and see nothing
Overall, don't expect Jesus Walk Kanye, Gold Diggers Kanye, or even Stronger Kanye. This is Kanye on 808s & Heartbreak. Many people criticize his singing, the use of auto tune ( See artist T-Pain if you don't know what's auto tune ), the lack of rapping, and the concept as a whole. 50 Cent sure didn't like it, but wasn't the G-Unit gangster told him to switch his style up and see the money pile up? After a hardship year and trying to keep people happy like everything was all good, I give Kanye credit on making a musical and emotional concept album about a relationship's demise. The album has lots of songs that anyone can relate to if you ever been in a break up. I guess a break up doesn't just makes you feel lonely, it gives you a lot more than that and Kanye proved it. Lyrically, musically, and artistically the album in my opinion is great. Just don't expect the Kanye you're use too. The man might loose fans and maybe alot more respect in Hip Hop, but I support this man and his music. Hopefully Kanye gets a Grammy for Album of the Year, even if it's not his best effort, he still deserves it.
