Today, I want to write an impression about Mos Def. To narrow it down I want to write about his fourth-coming album entitled The Ecstatic.
The album is best describe as being musically mosaic. Each song is different from the next, probably because it’s produce by several producers. Producers such as Oh No, Chad Hugo, Madlib, Preservation, Mr. Flash, Georgia Anne Muldrow, and the late great J Dilla. Also each song’s format is distinctly different but they are greatly corresponding to each other. If you ever listen to DOOM (MF Doom) then you know exactly what I’m talking about. I’ve been listening to the album for a week now, and I love how Mos Def sounds. He sounds comfortable, like he knew what he wanted and did his thing. The music itself is refreshing and if you’re into the artist of Stones Throw, this is a must have. I can get into each song, but honestly, I have to listen to it more to actually know what each song is about. That’s probably the main difference with his first album Black On Both Sides, his concept is all over the place in The Ecstatic.
Overall, if you’re a Mos Def fan, then this is the album for you. You won’t be disappointed.
