Pixar's UP Impression

up My Bebe and I watched Pixar’s latest masterpiece, Up. It’s directed and written by Pete Docter and Bob Peterson. Both are notable by contributing in past Pixar’s films. The film voice stars are Edward Asner and Jordan Nagai. You’re probably wondering, who’s Jordan Nagai? We’ll get to that later. I don’t want to spoil people, so I’ll be very careful not to ruin it for you. The story is about a moody old man name Carl Fredricksen (Edward Asner) and a boy scout name Russell (Jordan Nagai) adventure to South America. You’re probably wondering, why are they going to South America? Well, this is the complicated part. If you’ve seen the trailer, it doesn’t do justice to the story because basically, you really don’t know what it’s all about until you watch the film. Granted, you have an idea what’s it about, and it’s not only about a man and boy flying a moving house with balloons, the story actually has depth and meaning. At times it’s very heartbroken and touching. The film reminds me of how at times, we can’t take the little things for granted, and most importantly, the little things make up our lives as a whole. The film does have laughs, lots of laughs. This is probably the reason why Pixar is a great studio. It knows how to blend themes together but at the same time, adults and kids can love the film. The story is wonderful and very heartfelt, it may inspire you to chase your dreams and it may make people realize that an adventure is more than what we think it is. It also has themes of dedication, the will to chase your dreams. After we left the theater, we felt good because we can relate to the characters. My Bebe and I have our own dream to chase, but we’re chasing them together. The music, which was composed by Michael Giacchino (Star Trek, LOST, Fringe) did an excellent job again. He composed a couple of other Pixar films, and this was no different. I think we’re witnessing our generations John Williams. He can truly capture the tone and mood of each scene. There are two scenes that shows evidence that without his music, they’ll be useless. As for the art work, it’s beautiful, you can never doubt Pixar’s imagination when it comes to computer animation. You can see every pixel is put into good use, the colors and textures are magnificent, and the sceneries and locations are breathtaking. I remember correctly, Pixar usually spend 4-5 years per a film. So you can understand how much labor of love is put into each film. I guess I’ll leave it at that, because this is a film experience you must take, it’s the adventure you’ll appreciate. I’ll admit, I got teary eyed in two scene because the story is so powerful. As for Jordan Nagai, he’s the first Japanese-American to voice in a Pixar film.

I think it’s going to be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards, but I doubt it’ll win. What were you disappointed about?
