The headline for the movie says “2 guys, 300 girls… You Do the Math.” Seeing the previews for this movie made me think I was going into another Bring it on but since the two main characters it changed the whole dynamic of the movie.
Shawn Colfax (Nicholas D’Agosto) and Nick Brady (Eric Christian Olsen) are the two biggest stars of their high school football team and are also the biggest players on campus. Bored with the monotony of what they’ve already got Shawn and Nick make a plan to head out to Cheerleading camp. In camp they encounter all types of crazy situations. The movie is spattered with tons of very comedic and witty lines along with situational humor that just makes it all too fun of a movie. It even pays tribute to a few other specific movies in passing. There are tons of stereotypes and such but it’s all in good fun.
On its outside it looks like a “chick flick” but I have to say that it shines through comedy-wise; enough so that you could essentially watch this movie with just about anyone. If you’re looking for good laugh during midday then I’d suggest this movie; it’d probably also make a good date movie. I personally would pay to go see the movie again.
Recently a lot more movies have been coming out that tend to be really grounded in reality. After starring in Forgetting Sarah Marshall Jason Segel makes his return to the screen this time as Syndey Fife. Also along for the ride are Paul Rudd(Peter Klaven), Rashida Jones(Zooey), and Andy Samberg(Roby Klaven).
All his life Peter Klaven has been a girlfriend guy. In growing up he hasn’t changed his habits; however Peter is getting married (Zooey) and has no best man. He goes on a series of man-dates in an attempt to find the one. Of course as a result he ends up in quite a few awkward positions, all the time with the support of his fiance. After finding Sydney, Peter’s life changes and he starts spending a little more time away. Peter’s manhood is awakened and he learns about what he has been missing.
To me the movie itself was pretty great. The storyline was cool. I wasn’t as impressed with this movie. It still had me laughing hysterically but I must say it wasn’t the best work. It might be because I went in with some higher expectations. I would watch it again though definitely. As per the demographic of the movie It’s sort of a buddy movie/date movie.
It took me a while to find this movie. I finally got to watch it and I have to say that it was well worth the wait it gave me. City of God (or Cidade de Deus) is originally a Portuguese/Brazilian movie based in a ghetto of Rio De Janeiro ironically named Cidade de Deus. The overall cinematic style of the movie is one to be praised as the main character, Rocket, weaves crisscrossing paths of fate together to create the history that is Cidade de Deus.
This ghetto of the Rio de Janeiro is home to crime of all types including but not limited to robbery, drugs, rape, adultery and other vices of men. This, however, is not one of your everyday movies. Cidade De Deus is a thought provoking film that takes you on a rollercoaster of action, drama, and suspense as you grow to know each character of the story. It makes you wonder why you were complaining about your own problems when this kind of stuff is going on. The acting of the movie is well done and seems natural from what I can tell. Amazingly enough most of the actors in the movie had never acted before because they were mostly residents of the town they were shooting in. At times the movie can get pretty graphic but the imagery makes for a more captivating and believable movie. The story of City of God is based on true events. It was made first into a book by Paulo Lins then later adapted by Braulio Mantovani for the movie's screenplay. Cidade de Deus is a well-crafted image of how simple, yet how complex life can really be. It's tagline pretty much says it all: "Fight and you'll never survive..... Run and you'll never escape." The movie says a lot of things. It conveys different messages about our lives and our faults as people .
It also has a bit of a Tarantino-esque story telling style that makes for a constantly building tension throughout the movie that keeps you strapped to your seat. Should you ever find this movie sitting around I'd suggest giving it a try. Cidade de Deus was ranked #3 by E! as one of the "movies to see before you die" and it was listed by Time Magazine as one of the 100 greatest movies of all time. |
